What are Magic Shots?

Magic shots are photos taken of you and/or your group on the parks and some magic is added to them later by Disney PhotoPass. All Magic Shots, animated and still are part of your Memory Maker entitlement. You must have an active Memory Maker entitlement at the time animated Magic Shots are taken in order for them to be added to your account.

Here is a list of Magic Shots that you can find at Disney World, click on the expandable menu to find exact locations for these Magic Shots as well as additional example photos.

Mickey and Minnie
In this Magic Shot, at Hollywood Studios, your pal Mickey joins you for a photo that is taken by a very special photographer — Minnie Mouse! This is also available as an Animated Magic Shot. Image courtesy of Disney Parks Blog.

This is also an Animated Magic Shot. Image courtesy of Disney Parks Blog.
This Magic Shot of Nick Wilde from Zootopia can be found at the entrance to Magic Kingdom Park or on Hollywood Boulevard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It is available as an Animated Magic Shot as well (image courtesy of Disney Parks Blog).
When you join Star Command in Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom Park, you can get this Magic Shot that is now also available as an Animated Magic Shot (image courtesy of Disney Parks Blog).

Tinker Bell

Tink in hands Disney World Magic Shot
This is the most common magic shot, found at every park. Usually found along Main Street and near the park's icon, but you may be able to find photographers elsewhere in the park that can do this magic shot. Hold out your hands, and Tink magically flies into them!

Tink has a different look in every park! This is her current look at Epcot

Tink at Magic Kingdom

Tink at Hollywood Studios

At Animal Kingdom, Tinker Bell is sitting in your hand

Flying Tink

Tinker Bell Magic Shot at Disney World
Along with the above Tink shots, every park has Animated Magic Shots with Tink flying (scroll down for more info on these), but the regular picture magic shot is cute too! This animated shot seems to be mostly at the entrance to each park, though lately, they've started to be found elsewhere in the park.

At Magic Kingdom, I found her in front of the train station at the entrance. This animated magic shot was also at the Rose Garden, but that is closed now.

I've now found Flying Tink on Main Street, though I haven't found her there yet this year.

tink flying - mk main street

At Epcot, the animated magic shot can be found in front of Spaceship Earth.

This Flying Tink animated magic shot can also be found behind Spaceship Earth.

tink - flying epcot

At Animal Kingdom, I asked several photographers, and they always kept pointing me back to the path in front of Tree of Life.

At Hollywood Studios, I found it on Hollywood Boulevard. It was during the Hat construction, so the picture was taken the other direction. But I would guess that now the animated magic shot faces the Chinese Theater.

Update, here's a pic of Flying Tink in front of the Chinese Theater! I've also noticed that this year, Flying Tink is larger in most of my pics than in the past. She's smaller in just one out of all my pics from January & February. You can see what I mean in the Epcot picture above and this DHS pic. You'll also notice that, unlike most magic shots, this animated magic shot can be taken at night.

Balloons

Balloon Disney World Magic Shot
A fun way to celebrate that you are at Disney! Most photographers around every park can do this shot.

Here it is in Epcot

As seen in Hollywood Studios

And here's Steph's daughter holding balloons in Animal Kingdom

Make sure to check your Photopass pictures. You never know when they might add magic shots when you didn't even realize you were getting one! This photographer at Magic Kingdom had me pose like this to show off my WDW 10k medal, but he never told me that it would be a magic shot. It was such a fun surprise! I've also had this happen for pictures where I've jumped in the air.

Frog Prince

Frog Prince Magic Shot Disney World
Found in Liberty Square, either near the area where Tiana meets, or near the castle. Hold out your hand, blow a kiss, and Prince Naveen, in his frog form, will appear!
Sebastian

Sabastian Magic Shot Disney World
Found in the Little Mermaid section of New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom, outside the Voyage of the Little Mermaid at Hollywood Studios, and at both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon water parks.

With all my many trips to Disney World, I've only seen Photopass in New Fantasyland twice, and only at night (this magic shot is only available during the day.) Thankfully, Steph was able to recently get this shot in front of Eric's castle (and how adorable is her daughter's reaction!?)

This trip, I was FINALLY able to find Photopass in New Fantasyland that could do magic shots! I like Steph's better, since it shows Eric's castle, while mine is a closeup, and could really have been taken anywhere.

Perseverance, lol, and I was finally able to get this shot with Eric's castle showing in the background this February!
Chip

Chip Magic Shot at Disney World
Found in the Beauty and the Beast section of New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom, in France at Epcot, and sometimes found outside the Beauty and the Beast show at Hollywood Studios. Here's when I found Chip at Hollywood Studios:

I've been finding this magic shot often in France this year

Step was able to find the Chip magic shot in New Fantasyland, on the bridge by the Be Our Guest restaurant

I was able to find this magic shot in front of Gaston's Fountain in New Fantasyland. You will only find a Photopass photographer by the fountain when Gaston is on a break during the day.
Lumiere

Lumiere magic shot at Disney World
Found in the Beauty and the Beast section of New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom, usually on the bridge by Be Our Guest. You will also get an Animated Magic Shots with Lumiere (scroll down for more info on these), but the regular picture magic shot is really cute too! I have a hard time finding Photopass in this area, and it took until the last day of my trip to finally get this shot.

This February, I saw photographers in the area more often, and here's a version where you can see the Beast's castle in the background
Butterflies

Butterfly Magic Shot Disney World
Very rare, usually found at Epcot. Ask a photographer if they are trained for it, and you might luck out! I was able to get this one at the Epcot entrance, though I've heard it is now only available around the World Showcase.

Steph was able to get this magic shot in Animal Kingdom. I've heard that it's now a more common magic shot at this park, around the Tree of Life or by Rafiki's Planet Watch.

Butterfly (solo)

There's a new shot of one butterfly resting on your hand at Animal Kingdom! It's found around the Tree of Life or sometimes by Rafiki's Planet Watch. Thanks to Laura for the picture!

This trip, I found it by the start of the Africa bridge at Animal Kingdom

You can also find this Butterfly shot in Epcot around the World Showcase. I was able to find it twice this trip along the World Showcase Lagoon, once in Canada, once on the bridge to France.

Olaf & Flurries

Olaf with snow flurries Disney World Magic Shot
The Olaf magic shot has been added pretty much everywhere! Olaf is almost as common as the Tink magic shot now. You can find this Olaf magic shot at Hollywood Studios on Hollywood Boulevard, at Epcot behind the fountain, at Magic Kingdom, or at Blizzard Beach.

When Olaf first showed up, I had to ask 5 different Photopass photographers at Hollywood Studios before I found one that wanted to build a snowman. 😉

This trip, I also found him at the Magic Kingdom, with the castle in the background

At Epcot, in Future World on one of the walkways across from the Imagination Pavilion

And in the World Showcase in Epcot, near France

This trip, I even found Olaf at Animal Kingdom. I like this pose the photographer had me do the best of any of the Olaf magic shots!
Olaf Waving

Olaf waving Disney World Magic Shot
There is now a second Olaf magic shot, this one is an animated magic shot where Olaf pops in and waves! The regular picture magic shot is cute too. However, his hand sometimes shows up in weird spot on the people in the picture, so make sure you look before sharing!

Jiminy Cricket

Jiminy Cricket Magic Shot Disney World
This fun magic shot is at the Animal Kingdom! You can get it anywhere on the path leading up to the Tree of Life after entering the park. Here's Steph's daughter with Jiminy.

This trip, I found it at the start of the bridge to Africa. The important part of this magic shot is the background can't be green. So when I asked, they wouldn't do it on the path entering the park, because it was too green. So, I'd just ask for it at every photographer at the park, because it looks like it's up to them to find the best spot in the sky for it. Here are the poses 2 different photographers had me do

This one is the same pose Steph's daughter did. I think they are both cute!

Simba, Pumba, and Timon

Lion King Disney World Magic Shot Simba Pumba and Timon
This newest magic shot is at the Animal Kingdom! It just before my trip in February, and I found it in several places around the park. So, I would ask any photographer at Animal Kingdom if you want this shot. You can find it in front of the Tree of Life

On the Bridge to Asia

And before the bridge to Africa.

I also found them on the entrance path to the Tree of Life this trip

Inside Out

Anger Inside Out Magic Shot at Disney World
This brand new Inside Out shot featuring Anger can be found in Epcot near Spaceship Earth. This is also an animated Magic Shot We are curious as to why they chose Anger for the “Happiest Place on Earth”.

Mike

mike (3)
Even though the Monsters University topiary is no longer at the park, this Mike Wazowski magic shot is still at Hollywood Studios. You will usually have to ask for this shot, since the Hat is no longer there, I'm not sure if there's a set location. This trip, I found it by Pixar Place. Make a scary pose!
Baymax

baymax
Another of the Animated Magic Shots, this regular picture magic shot isn't as great as the others. Found at the Arch at Hollywood Studios, Baymax is added, but the regular magic shot only shows him. If you have a large group in the picture, maybe some people will be seen?
Pascal

Pascal magic shot at Disney World
I had found Pascal at Disneyland in the past, but he was more elusive at Walt Disney World. I've been told he can be found if there's a Photopass photographer near the Tangled restrooms, but I haven't found Photopass around there in years. But this trip, I found this magic shot at the Animal Kingdom, on the path leading to the Tree of Life!

Hitchhiking Ghosts

Hitch hiking ghost magic shot disney world
Found by the hearse in front of the Haunted Mansion. This is different than the magic shot that is found during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, because this magic shot only contains one of the Hitchhiking Ghosts! However, you can get each of the 3 ghosts, if you are lucky! First you are asked to pose as if you are hitchhiking

hitchhiking ghost 1 (1)

Then you are asked to act scared

hitchhiking ghost 1 (2)

And here are the other two hitchhiking ghosts, though the first one has been more common in my pictures

Festival of Fantasy

Festival of Fantasy Magic Shot
Found on Main Street, the animated magic shot adds in the Lost Boys from the Festival of Fantasy Parade dancing in your picture. The regular picture magic shot is fun too

AVAILABLE ONLY DURING SPECIAL EVENTS

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party
Ghost Driver: Found during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom, by the hearse in front of the Haunted Mansion. If you're lucky, it can sometimes be found during the day, as well. Act scared when you see the ghost!

Hitchhiking Ghosts: Found during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom, in Frontierland near Splash Mountain (were Woody & Jessie meet during the day.) Previously, it was found in the area between the Liberty Belle and Haunted Mansion. Sometimes also found at Disneyland, near Haunted Mansion.

Poison Apple: Found during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom. This is a very hard magic shot to find, since it's usually only available when a character is on a break, and the photographer is still there and can do this shot. I originally heard it was in the hub, but during the party, I was told to go to the Mad Tea Party. Once the Queen of Hearts left, I was able to get this magic shot! This year, it can sometimes be found where the Hitchhiking Ghosts magic shot is. Photopass Photographers have also been walking along the Boo To You Parade route asking if guests want this shot!

Boo To You Gravediggers: Found during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom, in Town Square at the pumpkins photo spot. This animated magic shot adds in my favorite part of the party! The Grave Diggers from the Boo To You Parade will spookily join in your picture. The regular picture magic shot is just as cool! I was so excited for this addition!

mnsshp

Boo To You Waltz Dancers: Found during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom, on Main Street. The Waltzing Ghosts from the Boo To You parade dance into this animated magic shot. The regular picture magic shot is cool, but it can also cover up people in the picture. I got this picture 4 times, and this is the only time part of my face isn't obstructed.

ghost waltz (2)

This magic shot may also be found during the day during the Halloween season, if you are lucky. I think it looks cooler at night though!

During the Holidays and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party
Mistletoe: Found during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. You can find it around the park, just ask the Photopass Photographer if they can do this shot! It may also be found during the Christmas season on Main Street. I kind of lucked into this shot. I got it on Main Street but it was blurry. When I saw the photographer doing this shot by the ornament, I asked for it, but she said you had to have 2 people in the shot. I told her how I was asked to pose the day before, and she said she would try, but it probably wouldn't work. As you can see, it did! So always ask!!

Prep and Landing: Found during the Holiday season at Magic Kingdom, in Town Square in front of the tree. This is another animated magic shot, but the regular picture magic shot is cute too!

holidays

Snowglobe: Found during the Holiday season at Magic Kingdom on Main Street. This magic shot is a border around your picture so it looks like you are in a snowglobe!

snowglobe

Frozen Trolls: Found during the Holiday season at the entrance to the Animal Kingdom. This is animated magic shot has the trolls rolling in, but the regular picture magic shot has them in a pyramid in front of you!

Food & Wine Festival
Food & Wine Festival: Found in front of the fountain in France at Epcot. This is another of the animated magic shots, but the regular picture magic shot gives the picture a really nice Food & Wine Festival border!

ANIMATED MAGIC SHOTS

Disney World now has Animated Magic Shots! They take a regular picture of you, and then an animated version of a character is added to the shot. So along with always asking “do you have any magic shots?” I would recommend also asking “do you have any of the new animated magic shots?” You never know when they might pop up! When they first started showing up, I asked just about every Photopass photographer if they had these new animated magic shots, and if not, where I could find them. But I was only able to find 2. Last year, I had a little better luck, finding Baymax, Flying Tinker Bell in all four parks, and Lumiere again, but it still wasn’t as easy as I expected. But lately, I've been getting animated magic shots when I didn't even realize it! So, keep asking!

Click the pictures in the drop down to see the animation:

In the Beauty and the Beast section of New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom, you can find Lumiere. You will get a regular, picture magic shot with Lumiere (as pictured earlier), as well as this Animated Magic Shot:

Now, when you join Star Command in Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom Park, there is also an Animated Magic Shot. This is one of our favorite new ones! (courtesy of Disney Parks Blog)

At Magic Kingdom, I found flying Tinker Bell in front of the train station at the entrance:

At Hollywood Studios, along Hollywood Boulevard, I found Sulley. You get a regular, picture magic shot with Sulley, as well as this Animated Magic Shot. This Sulley animated magic shot has been replaced but I'm leaving it here for now, to give an idea of what the animated magic shots look like:

At Hollywood Studios, in front of the Arch, you can find Baymax:

Hollywood Studios, along Hollywood Boulevard, Honey Lemon (this replaced the Sulley one)

At Hollywood Studios, I found flying Tinker Bell on Hollywood Boulevard:

This one is no longer found because the Osborne Lights at Hollywood Studios are gone, but it was too cute not to share! Thanks to my friend Megan for sharing!

The Animated Magic Shots are .mp4 files. Right now, you can only download them if you purchase Memory Maker. You can't purchase them separately. Animated Magic Shots only show up in your PhotoPass account, if you have Memory Maker active at the time the photo is taken.

MAGIC SHOTS NO LONGER AVAILABLE
These magic shots are currently not available, but maybe they'll come back!

Minnie or Mickey

At the fountain on Hollywood Boulevard, there are new magic shots where either Mickey or Minnie can be added next to you! I only was able to get the Minnie magic shot, but if you ask, you should be able to get both. Look to your left to see Minnie, and look to your right to see Mickey.

Stitch popping out of a box

At the Animal Kingdom entrance, look for a Photopass photographer with a crate. You can hold this, and Stitch will pop out from the box! During the Holidays, the crate becomes a present, and the magic shot is taken in front of the tree.

Soarin': Found at Epcot, near the entrance or behind the Fountain of Nations. Also found at California Adventure. Point up to the sky and Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy fly by!

Sit with Mickey: Found at most parks at a bench or sitting on the curb. Most commonly found at Hollywood Studios, I've also had this magic shot taken at the fountain by the tip board. Wave because Mickey will wave back!

Sit with Minnie: Found at most parks at a bench or sitting on the curb. Like the Mickey magic shot, this one is most commonly found at Hollywood Studios. I've also found it on the steps in Streets of America, and at the entrance at Epcot.

Baby Simba: Found at Animal Kingdom, near the Tree of Life. Hold your arms as you are holding a baby, and Baby Simba will appear.

Captain Hook: This magic shot is rare now, but sometimes you might find a Photopass photographer carrying around a sword near Pirates of the Caribbean at Magic Kingdom or on Tom Sawyer's Island at Disneyland . If you do, ask if they can do this shot and you might get lucky!

Frog (Tiana): Thanks to The Young Family from Alabama, I learned that there's a Tiana frog pose as well! It is in the area across from the bathrooms by Casey's.

Anna and Elsa: This magic shot was originally for the Frozen Summer Fun event at Hollywood Studios. Instead of waiting 4 hours to meet the sisters, just get this magic shot, found at Hollywood Studios inside Oaken's Trading Post. There's a photographer set up in front of a bridge backdrop, you can't miss it.

I recommend Laura's pose instead, to fit more with how Anna & Elsa look in the magic shot

Snowflake: This magic shot was also originally for the Frozen Summer Fun event at Hollywood Studios, but you can still find it along Hollywood Boulevard or Sunset Boulevard.

I think it showed up better when it was inside Oaken's Trading Post during the Frozen Summer Fun event, so I recommend asking a few photographers for this shot, so you might luck into it showing up better.

Sven: Available during the Frozen Summer Fun 2014 event at Hollywood Studios. Look for the Arandelle backdrop by One Man's Dream

Olaf taking off his head: Available during the Frozen Summer Fun 2014 event at Hollywood Studios. In front of the icy forest backdrop outside Oaken's Trading Post

Marshmallow: Available during the Frozen Summer Fun 2014 event at Hollywood Studios. In front of the icy forest backdrop outside Oaken's Trading Post, this is also where the above magic shot is taken, so be sure to ask for both!

Sulley: With the new Animated Magic Shots, a Sulley magic shot has been added. You can get this magic shot at Hollywood Studios, along Hollywood Boulevard.

Once Upon a Time: This magic shot adds Elsa and Regina, from the ABC show Once Upon a Time. You can find the backdrop for this at Hollywood Studios behind the ABC Commissary. It is sponsored by ABC, so it's FREE for everyone, whether you have Memory Maker or not! So be sure to get this magic shot, since it's probably only available for a limited time.

Darth Vader: Found at Hollywood Studios during Star Wars Weekend. Sometimes you can luck into this shot around the Jedi Training Academy at other times during the year. I've heard it's also available at Disneyland near the Jedi Training Academy. If you see a Photopass photographer with a light saber, be sure to ask because they can do this shot!

Stormtroopers Force Push: Found at Hollywood Studios during Star Wars Weekend, right next to the Premiere Theater (where the Star Wars Weekend shows take place.) It's near the Cars meet & greet area, if you are unfamiliar with the Premiere Theater. You can get the Darth Vader shot mentioned earlier and/or this shot that was added in 2013. They ask which one you want, but you can say both! There's also a sign with what the pictures will look like before you get in line, so you can't miss it.

Wings This is probably one of the most rare magic shots. It started out only being available during Flower and Garden Festival, but is now available in Epcot all year long. I first got this shot at the Epcot entrance. When the Photopass photographer asked if I wanted this shot, I couldn't believe it.

Then, earlier this year, I was asked if I wanted this shot in Japan by a roving Photopass photographer. I love this view with Spaceship Earth in the background. So hopefully you'll get lucky!

Stitch: At any park (though mostly commonly found at Hollywood Studios, along Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard), point to the ground, and Stitch will break out from beneath the street.

Here is the shot at Animal Kingdom

Stitch with ice cream: Found at Hollywood Studios, Epcot, or Animal Kingdom. You will usually have to ask for this shot, since the photographer has to take you to a bench or other area where you can sit. I've mostly seen this shot at Epcot near the entrance or on a park bench and at Hollywood Studios, at a bench, near the fountain or by sitting on a street corner along Hollywood Boulevard. Point at an empty spot next to you, and Stitch with his ice cream cone will show up.

This trip, I found photographers by the start of the Africa bridge and they said they were excited to do this shot since it's not that common at Animal Kingdom

Christmas Lights Sven: Found at the Osborne Lights at Hollywood Studios. This is another animated magic shot, but the regular picture magic shot is cute too! Thanks to my friend Megan for this picture!
