But I do have an idea for another one — one for when your trip is a bit far off and actually doing something each day is not quite yet practical.  This is a countdown calendar that was initially intended as a retirement calendar but I turned it into something a little more usable for us right now!  You can find a variety of countdown clocks on Amazon HERE. I got the cheapest one as I knew I was planning on changing it anyway – it was $8.99.  Here is what it looked like to begin with:

So how did I create it? I used photoshop, but any photo editing program that you can set the size of the canvas would work.  As you can see I took the clock apart and measured – mine was a little bigger than 3.5″ x 2.5″ so I did 3.66″ x 2.66″ and just kept things away from the edges.

I used Happy Scrap Girls – Happiest Memories Kit to create the image as well as Waltograph & Century Gothic font.

Once I printed out my own project I just used the enclosed paper as a template to cut out my vacation countdown. {Another option would be to create something using alphabet sticker letters and Disney stickers on the back which has a sand appearance.}

Once I got the image cut I put it back together. When you first turn on the clock everything is at zero … this is what we can't wait to see at the end of the countdown but for now I want to be able to see how long until our trip!

Initially you will set the current date and time and then you set the date and time for the countdown (yes you can countdown to the minute!)

Once we have our exact flight time or the time to leave the house nailed down I will adjust our countdown but for now we are excited to see it countdown — knowing 180 days is our day for dining reservations we don't have to much longer to get to those!

This photo was taken just over a month ago … we are going to be under the 300 mark soon!  My kids love checking the clock every so often to see how many days are left. Seeing their excitement is so magical — the trip is going to be so much fun!

What do you do to countdown to your vacation?  I plan to check out the Pinterest board and the other links above for more ideas as we get closer to the big milestones (dining, fast passes, etc.). Disney magic happens more than just during the trip, it happens during the entire planning  process when going to Walt Disney World or Disneyland.
