I always like to wear a shirt that fits with the park I'm attending that day, or a character I know I'll meet. One of the hardest choices this trip was which of my Frozen shirts to wear when I was meeting Anna & Elsa! But there are a few opportunities where adults can wear a costume in a Disney park, and I want to say: Go For It! I've attended many Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Parties at Disney World, and the one time I wore an actual costume, it was lots of fun.
If you are at the parks during Dapper Day, I definitely recommend playing along and getting dressed up. I've never done Dapper Day, but one day, we decided to get dressed up and meet characters. It was a lot of fun, and the characters loved it! You can tell by Minnie's reaction here. 😉
I attended this year's 24-hour day at Disney World (a full post on this fun day coming soon!), and they encouraged people to dress up as your favorite character. I didn't think it would be comfortable for a full day, and when it was the hottest day in Florida in 3 years, I'm glad I made that choice. But there were TONS of people dressed up in some amazing costumes. There was a Jack Sparrow in front of me in line that was better than any official Jack I've met in a park!
For Star Wars Weekend, though, I decided to go for it. I had been eyeing an adorable R2-D2 dress from Her Universe for a while, and grabbed it when it was on sale for May the 4th. I'm not really a dress person, and was a little nervous to wear it to the park. But, I had a blast all day! I've never received so many comments on something I wore in a park from both guests and cast members. It made for some adorable pictures, and great interaction with the characters. Unfortunately, on that day, R2-D2 was having some issues so he wasn't out meeting. The characters I did get to meet loved it, though!
So next time you have a chance to wear a costume, whether for a party or other special event, try wearing one! Just be mindful of the weather, especially in Florida, and plan accordingly. 😉
